FAQ

What are your rates?

Rates vary depending on several factors including the photographer assigned and the length of the shoot. Please contact us for an estimate.

When will I get my photos?

Our standard processing and delivery time is 10 business days from the date of the shoot. Rush charges apply, at the discretion of the director, for faster processing and delivery.

How will I be billed?

University Photography bills through the interdepartmental requisitioning process. Please send an IDR to Barbara Lewis in Publications at the time of your request. The IDR will be returned to you with costing information when the photos are delivered.

Do I need releases?

University Photography requires releases for subjects under 18 only. Please let us know when you file your request whether minors will be present for the shoot.

How can I get copies of photos I’ve seen published by Tufts?

To find and request photos taken by our office, please visit our online image archive .

Can I order prints?

We can have prints prepared by a local vendor for an additional charge.

Are these images copyright protected?

Tufts University controls the rights to all photos taken by University Photography. For more information click here .

What information do you need from me?

The exact information we need depends on the type of shoot, but generally speaking, we need to know:

  • Full contact information for the client, shoot contact person (if different from client), and subject
  • Names of everyone who needs copies of the photos
  • The date and time of the shoot or dates and times the subject is available (if known)
  • Preferred photo delivery method
  • Photo delivery deadline (please be accurate and specific)

Please also see our hiring checklist for a list of questions you should answer before submitting your photo request.

Can I choose my photographer?

If you prefer a particular photographer, please let us know at the time of your request. We will do our best to reasonably accommodate requests for specific photographers, but because of the varied and often hectic schedules of our staff and freelancers, it is not always possible to assign a particular person to a shoot.

How much do images from the photo archive cost?

Images from the Merlin archive are provided to members of the Tufts community free of charge. If you are not affiliated with Tufts and would like to use a University Photography image, please contact us directly to make arrangements for licensing and use.

Who owns the images from the photo shoot I commissioned?

Tufts University owns the images. Clients have the first right to reproduction for work commissioned. After publication, image rights reside with Tufts University Photography. Clients are not allowed to distribute, sell or share any images produced by this office without prior consent.
